Question:

Does the LinkIQ require a yearly calibration?

Answer:

Calibration is the act of comparing a device under test (DUT) of an unknown value with a reference standard of a known value.

Industry standards TIA-568 and ISO 11801 define the performance expectations for cabling. Certification testers like the DSX CableAnalyzersTM, are designed to make parametric measurements to test if the cabling infrastructure actually meets or exceeds the accuracy requirements described in the standards. As a result these testers require an annual calibration that is traceable to international standards.

The LinkIQ is designed for throughtput testing. It can be calibrated and in that process is only tested for performance. This means that a LIQ calibration is not traceable.

Fluke does not specify an annual verification check for the LinkIQ, but does offer it as part of Gold Maintenance Services (model GLD-LIQ).
