Question:

Although I have put fresh batteries in my Fluke 1503/1507, I get a "low battery" indication when I switch to the Insulation function. Why?

Answer:

This and similar questions have prompted us to test this. Three sets of new Duracell batteries were tested, in several Fluke-1503/1507's with the same result.
Other brands of batteries may cause the same  result as well.

The following procedure can be used to turn-off the low battery message ;

  1. Set the 1503/1507 to V function and press and hold down the BLUE button.
  2. The tester will indicate first BAT and then the voltage-level of the batteries.
  3. Turn the unit off and then back on.  Observe that the empty battery indicator does not appear when making a insulation measurement.

With this method the high current battery test mode is used.
It puts a load across the batteries that reduces the internal impedance of the batteries to an acceptable level for the battery-check electronics.
