This is a quick guide on how to change the unit of measurement, and Emissivity settings for the 566 and 568 IR thermometers.

Changing unit of measure

  1. Pull the trigger and release it to turn the unit on.
  2. Press the middle of the three grey button 3 times. You will see the box on the lower left corner of the screen cycle through different options, and on the 3rd press of the button it will display either C or F, depending on what mode it currently is on.
  3. Press the left grey button to cycle between C and F
  4. Pull the trigger again to save the change and reset back to the home screen.

Changing the Emissivity setting

Emissivity is the effectiveness of the surface of a material in emitting energy as thermal radiation. You may wish to adjust the Emissivity setting on your thermometer to ensure you are getting accurate readings for the surfaces you are measuring. Below is how to do so.

  1.  Pull the trigger and release to turn the unit on.
  2. Press the center of the three grey buttons 1 time.  The bottom right box on the display green will display an ? symbol.
  3. Press the far right grey button to select the Emissivity settings menu.
  4. Once there the bottom boxes on the screen should change to "Table" "Back" and "No."
  5. If you wish to use the built in emissivity table, press the left grey button. This will take you to the table screen. You can then press the left button to cycle downwards through the list.  If you miss the one you wanted to select, just keep pressing the button, It will cycle back to the top.  Once you are on the material you want to use, press the center button.  Then pull the trigger to save the change and go back to home.
  6. If you would prefer to use the emissivity by numerical value instead, once you get to step 3 select the "No." option by pressing the right grey button.
  7. The current emissivity value is listed above the 3 bottom boxes with the ?= value.  You can increase the value by pressing the right grey button, and decrease it by pressing the left grey button. Once you are on the value you would like to use, select "Done" by pressing the middle grey button.
  8. Pull the trigger again to save the change and reset to home screen.

If you would like to use the Emissivity by numerical value and do not know what value you should use, you can search the internet for "Emissivity tables" and find a wide variety of resources with documented values for many materials.
