Installing drivers for 430-II Power Loggers
Installing drivers for 430-II Power Loggers
Installing up-to-date drivers for the 430-II products is one of the most common cases that for Fluke Tech Support. These instructions assume you are using Windows 11, but the same steps apply to Windows 10 and should only look a little different visually.
NOTE: You will need admin access on your computer to complete these steps.
First, you will need to download "Fluke 430 Series II USB Drive (.zip)" from our 430 Series II Software Page:
The file you downloaded is a called a .zip file. This means the folder is “zipped” up so that a group of files will take less space and be easier to move around. Once moved, the folder will need to be extracted; unzipping the files back to their original size. The simplest way to do this is to right-click the .zip file and click “Extract All…”
By default, it will prompt you to extract the files into a new folder in the same location, which will be named the same as the .zip file’s name. So it will most likely be in your downloads folder, called “Fluke_430-II_USBDrivers”.
Next, we’ll need to go to the Device Manager and find your 430-II device. Make sure the device is plugged in to power (so it doesn’t lose battery while we’re working), turned on, and plugged into the USB port of your computer using a Mini-USB cable. The easiest way to find Device Manager is to click on the Start Menu and type ‘Device Manager’ into the search bar, or Right-Click on the Start Menu icon and select it from the list.
You should have a device called “Fluke 430 Series II” in your Other Devices Category. The little yellow triangle is a warning that drivers are not installed correctly. You can right-click on this device and select “Update Driver”
It will ask you how you want to search for drivers. We need to select “Browse my computer for drivers”
It will prompt you to select the location where the drivers will be. Click the browse button and find the folder you created earlier. (As a reminder, if you stuck to the default extraction settings this will be in your Downloads folder, and called “Fluke_430-II_USBDrivers”.)
Click OK when this overall folder you made is highlighted, NOT the amd64 or i386 folders within it. We want the updater to see both of them.
Make sure “Include subfolders” is checked YES, and click “next”. If everything goes according to plan, it will install and let you know it was successful.
If Windows gives a warning that the drivers were blocked from installing, you probably have a security feature called “Memory Integrity” enabled. Modern operating systems like Windows 11 use this feature to prevent suspicious drivers from making unwanted changes to a PC, but safe drivers trigger this as well if they have not been updated in quite some time.
We have an article about how to disable this, but if you have an IT department you should consult with them first. Not every IT or cyber security team is okay with that feature being disabled.
When Memory Integrity is turned off, reboot your PC. The drivers should finish up by themselves, but if the little yellow warning triangle is still there simply repeat the driver install process. This time they won’t be blocked.
You will now need to update drivers one more time. The “Fluke 430 Series II” device moves to a new home in the Universal Serial Bus controllers category, but a new device emerges called “USB Serial Port” back in the Other Devices category. The little warning triangle is will mark this new device, simply repeat the driver installation steps here as well. Luckily, each time you do this the folder you selected should be remembered, so it is easier each time!
When everything is correctly installed, you’ll have “Fluke USB Serial Port (COM__) in the Ports category, and “Fluke 430 Series II” in the Universal Serial Bus controllers category.
