Further troubleshooting for the Versiv 2 Downgrade Procedure

If our Versiv 2 Field Downgrade Procedure did not work, there may be a few further things to consider.

Firstly, it may help to better clarify what is meant by “downgrade”. Putting the device into rescue mode does not allow any previous firmware to be installed; instead, the procedure allows the device to rollback to the most recent firmware that had previously been installed.

For example, if the device had v6.14 installed, then was upgraded to v7.1, the downgrade procedure would work and allow the device to return to v6.14.

However, if the device started with v6.14, was upgraded to v7.0, and then again upgraded to v7.1, we would no longer be able to downgrade all the way back down to v6.14. The process only allows us to take one step back in this device’s version history, and can not return to anything before that.

The .ci2 firmware file of the previous version is required to trigger to downgrade, so a downgrade is only possible if that file is available. A download for v6.14 Build 9 is available here.

You can discover what version the device previously had by putting the device into rescue mode, and using Linkware PC’s Software Version Utility:

Put the Versiv 2 in rescue mode:

- Power off the unit.
- Hold down the HOME and TEST keys.
- Keeping them held down, turn on the tester, then release the Home and Test keys.
- You will see a "RESCUE MODE" screen appear.

Once in rescue mode, run the latest version of LinkWare PC, connect to Versiv 2 over USB, and select the function:
UTILITIES → DSX CABLEANALYZER → SOFTWARE VERSION

In this mode, the “Software” line will indicate the software version that the device is eligible to be downgraded to.

If the above troubleshooting was unsuccessful, the next step would require you to contact your local service center for repair.
