My Fluke Networks Versiv Main or Remote won't power on - what could the issue be?

When a Versiv device no longer powers on, or no longer seems able to hold a charge, it can be easy to assume that the solution will involve a costly repair. But in some cases, the trouble may lie in another aspect of the power system, like the charger or battery. Some quick and simple troubleshooting can help either eliminate these possibilities (so you know for certain that a repair is needed), or find that the solution would involve a replacement accessory instead.

Let’s Check the Batteries...

Sometimes the inability for a device to hold a charge is related to the battery itself, rather than an issue with the circuitry of the Versiv device.

If one of your two Versiv devices is still working, you can swap the batteries between them and see if the problem “follows” one of the two batteries. If so, a replacement battery might be the better solution.

Let’s Check the Chargers...

If both batteries work but only appear to be able to charge in one of the devices instead of the other, we can investigate the power-supply and see if the problem lies there.

Kits with a Versiv main and remote would include two power supplies. Some users always use the same charger on the same device, so the first test would be to swap them and see if one is always working and the other never is. If so, the charger would need to be replaced with a new one.

What if it’s not that simple?

If the batteries are confirmed to work elsewhere, and the charger can successfully charge another device, we can now be much more confident that the problem lies within the Versiv device’s ability to pass power along to the battery from the charger, or in its ability to take power from a working battery. This does mean a repair would be needed after all, but thanks to the troubleshooting steps you can be certain that it’d be beneficial.
