Versiv Kit Components Visual Glossary

The many parts of a Versiv cable certification kit are referred to with terms than can feel easy to mix up. This guide can help establish the details of each part of a kit, and reduce confusion when interacting with clients, sales teams, or tech support.

A typical cable testing kit is made up of a Versiv Main and Remote, with a Module clicked onto their backs that reflects the type of testing to be done. The model name advertised often reflects the primary modules used in the kit, but this can lead to confusion where the entire kit is referred to as a module’s name, even if the context doesn’t call for it.

Below, examples are given for each type of device in a kit, to help determine what you need to identify if it’s not clear.
 


- Versiv or Versiv 2 Main / Mainframe -

This is the device users are typically the most familiar with, including the touchscreen used to set up and control the testing. No testing is possible without this item, and it would always have a module clicked into the back depending on the testing context.

- Versiv or Versiv 2 Remote -

This device looks just like the Main, but without a touchscreen. Instead, 6 indication LED lights are used. This items goes on the other end of a cable-under-test when using copper testing with a DSX module or Tier 1 fiber testing with a CFP module.

A Versiv Main can be used as a remote, so occasionally a kit will include two main units instead of one main and one remote.

- Modules -

These items click into the back of a Versiv Main or Remote, and determine what type of testing is possible. Since they are interchangeable, a kit may have many combinations of modules.

Module examples include:

DSX-5000 - "CableAnalyzer" module, used for copper testing up to Cat 6A.
DSX-8000 - "CableAnalyzer" module, used for copper testing up to Cat 8.
CFP-QUAD - “CertiFiber Pro” module, used for Tier 1 fiber optic testing.
OFP-QUAD - “OptiFiber Pro” module, used for Tier 2 fiber optic testing.
CFP-MAX - “CertiFiber Max” module, used for MPO fiber optic testing.

(Note: the term Quad indicates that it is compatible with all 4 wavelengths of light used by singlemode and multimode fibers. This may be replaced by S or M to indicate that particular module is singlemode-only or multimode-only.

- Copper Testing Adapters -

These items are plugged into the top of a DSX copper module, and are changed depending on the context of the copper-under-test.

A pair of Permanent Link adapters and a pair of Channel adapters are included in all kits that include DSX copper modules:

DSX-PLA004 & DSX-CHA004 (for DSX-5000 kits)
DSX-PLA804 & DSX-CHA804 (for DSX-8000 kits)

Other adapters are offered separately for use in particular contexts.

- Fiber Testing Cords -

The fiber cords used in each type of testing are easy to get mixed up. The term “patch cord” might be a casual way to refer to either set, so more context is needed if it is unclear which type is being used.

The CertiFiber Pro modules use Test Reference Cables: a kit of 4 cables used to establish a 1-Jumper Reference.
The OptiFiber Pro modules uses Launch Cables: a long fiber cable contained within a zipper pouch used to set Launch Compensation.
